Milford Adult Education Approved For National External Diploma Program

The program gives adults an alternative way to earn a high school diploma.

MILFORD, CT — The Milford Adult Education program was named as an official provider of the National External Diploma Program, which gives adults an alternative way to earn a high school diploma through life experiences.

Milford is one of 24 locations in Connecticut that offers the program, according to Milford Public Schools.

Candidates entering the program are assessed to determine their high school level abilities, including: civic literacy, community participation, consumer awareness, financial literacy, cultural literacy, geography and history, health literacy, science and 21st-century workplace skills.

Life experiences that count include opening a bank account, voting in an election and interviewing for a job.

“The addition of the NEDP offering through the Milford Adult Education program gives us yet another way to assist local residents with their professional and academic goals,” Milford Adult Education Director Rick Raucci said.“Current statistics show that individuals with a high school diploma secure jobs providing an average of $8,400 more per year compared to those who do not have a high school diploma."
