Milford Approves $10.4 Million for School Bonding Projects

There was considerable discussion about whether to fund upgrades for Harborside Middle School after there was talk of closing it.

The Board of Aldermen voted to approve $10.4 million in school boding projects but Mayor Benjamin G. Blake said half of the money can be reimbursed by the state, the Milford Mirror reports.

Projects to be funded include:

  • $1.6 million for renovations to West Shore Middle School
  • $825,000 for roof upgrades
  • $1 million for school security upgrades
  • $2.1 million for asbestos abatement work at both Jonathan Law and Joseph A. Foran high schools
  • $605,000 for improving traffic flow and improving pedestrian safety at Meadowside Elementary School
  • $3.6 million for roof and window replacement work at Harborside Middle School

During the meeting there was discussion about the inclusion of funds for Harborside when there was talk last year about possibly closing the school, but in the end the school board decided against that.
