Milford Cigarette Theft From ShopRite Turns Bizarre

A Milford man is accused of stealing one pack of cigarettes, but then flees and locks himself in his car.

Milford police say Mikel Recalde, 31, of Rivercliff Drive, allegedly stole a pack of cigarettes from ShopRite without paying for it and then fled the store and locked himself his vehicle and refused to exit for police officers.

Police said they received the complaint regarding a shoplifting that occurred at the Cherry Street store on August 3. Investigation led to the arrest of Recalde, who is accused of taking the cigarettes worth $7.39 without paying for them, police said.

He was charged with sixth-degree larceny and interfering with police.

He was released on a promise to appear in Superior Court, Milford on August 26.
