Milford Considers No Smoking Policy for Recreation Areas
The town could be joining other municipalities in the state that have implemented a ban on smoking.

Milford’s Recreation Department is considering a policy that would ban smoking at Little League Fields and potentially at parks, beaches and other recreation areas, the New Haven Register reports.
Director of Recreation Paul Piscitelli told the paper the department had received several complaints over the past few years about adults smoking at ball fields adding that tobacco use contradicted with the aim of the department’s programs.
Milford Health Director Dr. A Dennis McBride told the Register the ban would set an example for the youth in the town.

If the policy were to be implemented, Milford would join 12 of the state’s 169 municipalities that have smoke-free parks and beaches. By creating a policy, police would not be able to enforce the rule.
Piscitelli told the Register he thinks people will obey the no smoking signs making the rule self-policing.
