Milford Detective Helps FBI Bust Suspected Online Predator

An undercover Milford police detective, acting as an underage minor, has helped bust a Portland, Conn., man who allegedly engaged in numerous chat sessions involving sexual activity, police said.

The unidentified detective helped take 34-year-old Barry Sullivan into custody Wednesday on an outstanding arrest warrant, according to police. The detective also helped execute a search warrant on Sullivan's residence, police said.

"Sullivan is accused of exposing and inappropriately touching himself during these chat sessions with the use of a web cam," police said in a press release.

The local detective made the bust after a months-long investigation along with other members of the Milford Police Department, FBI Computer Crimes Unit and the Portland Police Department, Milford police said.

Sullivan was charged with criminal attempt to use a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity and criminal attempt to commit risk of injury (4 counts), police said.

A $75,000 bond was placed on Sullivan who was transported to New Haven Superior Court GA #23 for arraignment, according to police.

The FBI Computer Crimes Unit is comprised of investigators from law enforcement agencies including New Haven, Milford, Hamden, Hartford and the FBI in New Haven. This unit investigates crimes related to online sexual enticement of minors, child pornography and other criminally related matters involving the use of computers.
