Milford Father Charged After Falling Asleep and Leaving Child, 4, in the Road: Police
West Haven police say the man drank at the beach, fell asleep in the road and left his child in the road. The child was hospitalized.

A Milford father is accused of drinking while at the beach, falling asleep in the road while his small child was left in a stroller in the roadway, police say.
West Haven Police say they responded to the area of 764 Campbell Avenue Tuesday at 7:10 pm for several calls describing a male sleeping on the curb, with a small child in a stroller, which was placed in the roadway adjacent to the curb.
Officers arrived finding and waking Harry Apuzzo, 52, of Jepson Drive in Milford.

Apuzzo explained the 4 year-old is his daughter and they were at the beach all day, police said.
Officers detected a strong odor of liquor from Apuzzo, police said.

“Several witness came forward and explained to the police they witnessed as Apuzzo stumbled several times pushing the stroller then falling asleep on the curb,” West Haven police said. “Containers of alcohol were found in Apuzzo’s possession.”
The child was transported to an area hospital for possible dehydration, along with a family member who was contacted by police to care for the child. Apuzzo was arrested for breach of peace and risk of injury to a child.
