MILFORD, CT — Milford firefighters were very busy last night as a fire broke out at a home on Point Beach Drive but everyone made it out safely, officials said.

At 8 p.m. the Milford Fire Department responded to a fire on the second-floor of a residence at 33 Point Beach Drive, said Battalion Chief Thomas A. Thornberg.

"On their arrival they found smoke coming from the second floor windows and the (resident) stated the fire was in the bedroom in the rear on the upper floor," Thornberg said. "Crews stretched a fire attack line into the structure and a second around the back of the home quickly extinguishing and confining the fire."

The homeowners were alerted by their smoke detector on the second floor which was a major factor that kept the fire from spreading to the rest of the residence, he said. There were no injuries reported and the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.

"The Milford Fire Department recommends that you check your smoke detectors monthly and never reenter the fire building once you exited," Thornberg said.
