MILFORD, CT — Fire department crews removed a propane tank that had been abandoned in the Housatonic River on Wednesday morning, according to a statement from Battalion Chief and Public Information Officer Adam Hansen.

A passerby called in and alerted the department about the 120-lb. tank that had been abandoned in the river at the Charles E. Wheeler Wildlife Area.

Crews responded to assess the situation. Fire companies were deployed out to the tank due to environmental concerns and waterway navigational concerns, Hansen said.
