Milford Lawmaker Addresses Upcoming Weddings During Coronavirus
With an average cost of over $30,000, couples with weddings planned in the coming months may be confronted with losing payments.

MILFORD, CT — State Representative Kim Rose (D- 118th District) is calling on Connecticut couples whose weddings have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to reach out to the Office of the Attorney General for assistance with uncooperative wedding vendors.
Many aspects of life have been disrupted by the spread of the coronavirus. Weddings are no exception. With an average cost of over $30,000, couples with weddings planned in the coming months may be confronted with losing payments for their special days ‒ especially if venues have yet to enact contingency plans for ceremonies and receptions.
"I have heard from many couples in my district who are distraught over the inflexibility of some wedding vendors during this pandemic thus far," said Rose. "While I am sensitive to the fact that many businesses and industries are hurting, this is an unprecedented and ever evolving crisis, and all vendors need to exercise flexibility with regards to date changes and cancellations. Venues especially should not be refusing to return deposits or charging couples fees upwards of 20 to 30 percent to reschedule or cancel their 2020 wedding dates."

"If couples are having significant problems with certain venues or vendors, I would encourage them to contact the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General, which may be able to provide assistance during these stressful times so that couples may have the day they always dreamed about," Rose said. "I would also encourage couples to contact their legislators so that they may advocate on their behalf to the Attorney General's Office."
