“When I was first contacted by Mr. Tom Acri’s 8th grade class from West Shore Middle School asking to get these flags displayed, I made a personal commitment to support this effort and do everything possible to make this happen,” Rep. Rose said. “Knowing that these particular flags represent such a profound part of our American history, I immediately wanted to help. I am delighted that we are here today honoring the memory of those who served with courage and dedication fighting for the freedoms of all Americans.”

The organization and its founders have worked tirelessly along with the descendants of the regiment to not only bring honor to their ancestors, but to erect a monument to pay tribute to them. The monument now stands at Criscoulo Park in New Haven.

Rep. Rose said, “It is an honor to stand here today with relatives of the regiment going back 10 generations to help mark the historic value behind this ceremonial event. Our youths will continue to learn about the sacrifices and contributions that the soldiers of the 29th made in order to work toward equality.”
