Milford Librarian Named Employee of the Month

Suzanne Harrison-Thomas, Children's Librarian at the Milford Public Library, was selected as Employee of the Month for April 2016.

As the recipient of the award for the Mayor’s Employee of the Month Program, please join us in extending a warm congratulation to Suzanne in receiving this recognition. After a review of all of the nominations, the Selection Committee unanimously chose her as the winner for her passion and commitment to her work, strong work ethic and teamwork.

Suzanne began her employment with the City of Milford on August 4, 1997 as a Library Assistant. She then began working as a Library Trainee on April 30, 2001, after which she was promoted to her current position as Children’s Librarian on February 4, 2002.

Suzanne’s commitment to childhood literacy, and instilling a love of literature and learning, is evident in every aspect of her administration of the Children’s Department. Her leadership has increased the number and breadth of programs offered such as story times, school vacation programming, school visits, writing clubs, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities, and Lego clubs.

Suzanne has successfully developed strong and respectful relationships with numerous city agencies. She works tirelessly, making herself available to schools and community organizations. She represents the Library and works with many youth organizations throughout the city by assuming a lead role in much of the Library community outreach. She participates in state-wide discussion groups in order to stay abreast of new trends.

Suzanne’s quiet, efficient manner has a calming effect in the often chaotic Children’s Department. Suzanne’s daily interactions can vary from assisting children and adults locate various materials or information, lending guidance in the selection of books, navigating online apps, games and tools, or simply giving a warm smile or a hug to a child. These are just a few of the many reasons the Mayor extends his sincere congratulations and appreciation to Suzanne for the outstanding attributes she exhibits as Employees of the Month.
