Milford Man, Acupuncturist Defrauded Medicaid Out Of $123K, Prosecutors Say

MILFORD, CT — An acupuncturist charged in a Medicaid fraud case will not serve prison time, according to a statement from Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin.

Julian Cano, 43, was found guilty on one count of health insurance fraud.

He was sentenced in Meriden Superior Court on Wednesday to three years in prison, the execution of which is suspended. Instead, Cano will serve five years of conditional release.

Cano was the owner of an acupuncture practice in North Haven and was a provider for the Connecticut Medicaid Program from 2022 to 2024. During that time, he billed for services he didn't provide and submitted billing codes for more expensive services than he actually provided, according to prosecutors.

Investigators interviewed 27 patients and said they found that Cano had fraudulently billed Medicaid for $123,087.

He was arrested and charged in July.

Cano was also ordered to pay back the full amount in restitution.
