Milford Man Defrauded Medicaid Out Of $123K, Prosecutors Say

MILFORD, CT — A Milford man who operated a North Haven acupuncture office is being charged after defrauding the state's Medicaid program of more than $123,000, according to a statement from prosecutors.

Julian Cano, 43, was charged with health insurance fraud and first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community.

Cano was the owner of an acupuncture practice and was a provider for the Connecticut Medicaid Program from 2022 to 2024. During that time, he billed for services he didn't provide and submitted billing codes for more expensive services than he actually provided, according to prosecutors.

Investigators interviewed 27 patients and said they found that Cano had fraudulently billed Medicaid for $123,087.

“The submission of claims to the Department of Social Services provided by Cano contained false, incomplete, deceptive and/or misleading information which constitutes health insurance fraud,” according to the statement from the Office of the Chief's State Attorney.

He was released on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 11.

Cano faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
