Milford Man Threatened To Harm, Kill Federal Law Enforcement Officer, Prosecutors Say
A man has been sentenced in the case, according to federal prosecutors.
MILFORD, CT — A man who previously pleaded guilty to charges that he threatened a federal law enforcement officer has been sentenced, according to a statement from David X. Sullivan, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
Hamilton Smith, 61, of Milford, was sentenced to 43 days in prison, time already served, and 1 year of probation.
Prosecutors said Smith sent a series of threatening text messages to a deputy U.S. marshal, including threats to harm and kill the marshal and his family.

Smith also called the U.S. Marshals Service Communications Center in Virginia and threatened to kill the deputy U.S. marshal, according to prosecutors.
He was arrested Jan. 12, 2023, and detained until Feb. 16, 2023. He pleaded guilty April 22, 2024, to making repeated harassing communications.
