Milford Police Chief Issues Statement On Flock Cameras

MILFORD, CT — Milford Police Chief Keith Mello released a statement regarding a screen grab on social media that shows him and other members of his staff in a Flock promotional video.

"That image was taken at a Flock user conference in August of 2025," Mello wrote to residents. "We went in 2025 for the same general reason we attend all training and vendor conferences: to educate ourselves about a technology the city uses, put questions directly to the people who build it, and bring what we learned back to our program here in Milford. The travel and lodging costs were paid by the city, not by Flock."

"I was unaware of footage from the conference until today, and I did not agree to its use for that purpose," Mello wrote. "Appearing in a vendor's video is not an endorsement. It does not change how this department writes policy, and what products or services we use."

"We understand and accept that members of our community will criticize this technology," Mello wrote. "That debate is legitimate and we've taken part in it publicly. I'd only ask that it proceed on accurate facts."
