Milford Police Chief Makes His Recommendation for Deputy Police Chief

The individual will be interviewed by the police commission in May.

Milford Police Chief Keith Mello has submitted the resume of Capt. Kenneth Rahn for the position of Deputy Police Chief, according to April’s Board of Police Commissioners meeting minutes.

Chief Mello said, according to the minutes, that it had been decided last month to set the criteria for candidates for the position of deputy chief and he noted he had shared with the commissioners his intention to put forth the name of Capt. Kenneth Rahn for the position.

He submitted the resume of Capt. Rahn to the commissioners at this time adding he would like to bring Capt. Rahn in for an interview at the May 2015 meeting. Chief Mello added he felt Capt. Rahn has the skill set and leadership skills, has the respect of his peers and supervisors and highly meets the criteria. Chief added he supports this recommendation very much and felt Capt. Rahn will serve the Department well.

Rahn joined the Milford Police Department in 1994. He graduated from Foran High School in 1989. A graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie N.Y., he earned a bachelor’s of science in criminal justice: police organization and administration.

In 1996, he and his K-9 partner, Samson, received the Daniel S. Wasson Memorial award for pride, dedication and enthusiasm. The following year, Rahn and Samson attended the Connecticut State Police Narcotics Detection Academy after which Samson became the first narcotic-detection K-9 in the department. Rahn was promoted to sergeant in 2008.
