Milford Police Officer Accused of Verbally Harassing Student: Report

The officer's on-duty conduct is under investigation. The officer's son and the alleged victim had words, which prompted the incident.

Milford police officer Maria Frey is under investigation by police for allegedly intimidating and harassing a Harborside Middle School eighth grader, who was involved in a verbal dispute with her son, the New Haven Register reports.

The complaint was filed by Lissette Cajigas on behalf of her 12-year-old son.

Frey’s son, also an eighth grader at Harborside, allegedly called the victim “short” and the victim shot back calling him in effect an idiot, the Register reports.

Nothing physical happened between the youths, but according to the complaint against Frey, she allegedly got into a verbal exchange with the victim about calling her son a name, the Register reports.

The boy told his parents he felt harassed and intimidated by Frey who was on duty at the time. The boy was on school ground when the incident occurred last Thursday afternoon.

Police Chief Keith Mello confirmed an investigation is ongoing and he called the allegations against Frey “completely inappropriate,” the Register reports.
