Milford Schools End Year With $1.2M Surplus

School officials have plans for how they want to spend the savings.

MILFORD, CT — The Board of Education ended the most recent fiscal year with a $1.199 million budget surplus and it is using the funds for vital building and grounds projects and to purchase computers and other equipment, the Milford Mirror reports.

$572,000 of the savings will be spent on building and grounds projects, $355,000 for equipment, computers and other items. The surplus is partly a result of less teachers, 12, retiring than was originally thought, and the district works hard to ensure teachers are kept in the classroom and not removed too often for professional development, the Mirror reports.
