Milford Schools Rule That 'Heartstopper' Books Will Stay On Shelves

The district made the decision after a group of parents asked for the books to be reviewed for age appropriateness, according to a report.

MILFORD, CT — The "Heartstopper" graphic novel series by Alice Oseman will remain on the shelves at Harborside Middle School, according to Hearst Connecticut. District administrators made the ruling following a challenge by local parents.

The "Heartstopper" series is about two British schoolboys who meet and fall in love. The parents who filed the complaint said they were not seeking to ban the books but questioned whether the books were appropriate for sixth graders.

However, Superintendent Anna Cutaia wrote in a letter to the parents that the school system "believes strongly in intellectual freedom and providing opportunities for equal access to books in our school library collections."
