MILFORD, CT — The Milford Police Commission unanimously approved changes to parking in the Walnut Beach area in an attempt to prevent the chaos that enveloped the beach on Memorial Day.

The streets that branch out from Walnut Beach will be resident-only parking and require beach stickers during the season, which lasts until Sept. 30, according to meeting minutes. The Walnut Beach parking lot will have the same limitations. Towing will be enforced.

Non-resident parking will be allowed on E. Broadway to Naugatuck Avenue South to Monroe Street. Towing will be enforced at metered parking spaces.

The police department will share more information on how Walnut Beach residents can apply for special parking permits for events, Chief Keith Mello said at the meeting. Residents in the area can contact the police department traffic division for more details.

The police department also has a contingency plan to call in assistance from nearby departments if necessary, Mello said.
