Milford Woman Who Drove Over Seawall and Fell 30 Feet Receives Warning For Unsafe Backing

The incident happened Sunday morning in the city's Morningside section.

It could have been much much worse for Sheila Richards, 73, of Milford who backed out of her driveway Sunday morning and crossed a seawall and fell 30 feet below before her car landed on its roof.

Richards escaped with minor injuries but she was issued a warning by the Milford Police Department for unsafe backing, the Milford Mirror reports.

At 11:08 Sunday the Milford Fire Department received a 911 call for a vehicle that had gone over the seawall in the Morningside section of the city.

First arriving crews found Richards’ vehicle at the bottom the seawall with her trapped inside.

Once reaching the vehicle, Fire Department personnel checked the driver for injuries and then began a complicated removal due to their upside down position and seat belted in the seat.

The driver was safely removed and reevaluated for any injuries, who was conscious and alert. They were then carried up to the awaiting ambulance and transported to Yale – New Haven Hospital for further medical evaluation.
