Milford's Schools Superintendent Receives a Raise, Contract Extension

The Milford Board of Education has approved a new contract for Dr. Elizabeth Feser.

The reigning Superintendent of the Year for 2015 as named by the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) will be remaining in her job for at least another three years.

The Milford Board of Education voted recently to extend the contract of Superintendent of School Dr. Elizabeth Feser through June 30, 2018.

The contract afforded Feser a 2.25 percent pay increase and her new salary is $198,768. School Board Minority Leader John DeRosa attempted to reduce the pay raise from 2.25 percent to 2 percent but that motion failed, according to meeting minutes.

Once Feser’s tenure with Milford ends she can receive payment for a maximum of 20 unused sick days, meeting minutes state.

When Feser was named the state’s top superintendent by CAPSS for 2015, the organization released the following information.

“For a number of years, Dr. Feser has exemplified the integrity, knowledge, vision, collaboration communication skills, work ethic, human goodness and passion for the welfare of children that are hallmarks for very effective superintendents of schools. Her leadership of a school system, therefore, is a model for how Superintendents can and should lead,” Joseph Cirasuolo, Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS), said. “We are pleased to bestow the honor of Superintendent of the Year upon Dr. Feser and look forward to continuing our work with her as she leads the Milford Public Schools.”

Prior to joining The Milford Public Schools as Superintendent in April, 2011, Dr. Feser served nine years as the Superintendent of the Windsor CT Public Schools. She was also the former Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the New Canaan CT Public Schools.

In reaction to her selection, Dr. Feser said at the time, “I am both humbled and honored to have been selected as the CAPPS Superintendent of the Year. I have dedicated much of my life in service to children, which I consider a privilege. As an educational leader I have to thank countless students, parents, teachers, colleagues, and mentors who have supported and taught me throughout my career.”

In 2005, Dr. Feser received the Windsor Bridge Builders Award and in 1993, she was honored by the CT Council for Exceptional Children. In addition, she is the recipient of the Women’s History Project Award in Danbury CT and was honored by the United Way in Danbury for her leadership in the United Way campaign.

Dr. Feser has published a number of articles and has been recognized many times for community leadership in Windsor and Milford.
