Mosquito Control Program Begins In Milford, Health Officials Say

The program monitors 101 known established mosquito-breeding sites in Milford.

MILFORD, CT — The Milford Health Department has started the 2026 Mosquito Control Program.

"Our team is actively monitoring and treating mosquito breeding areas throughout the city to help reduce mosquito populations and protect residents from mosquito-borne illnesses like West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE)," the health department posted on Facebook.

The mosquito control program monitors 101 known established mosquito-breeding sites in Milford, which are "routinely treated with biological larvicide in addition to catch basins and dozens of stagnant breeding pools."

Health officials had the following advice for mosquito prevention, which they referred to as the "3 Ds":

  • DRAIN standing water around your home
  • DRESS in light-colored clothing and wear long sleeves/pants when practical
  • DEFEND yourself with EPA-registered insect repellent
