Coastal Storm To Largely Miss Connecticut This Super Bowl Weekend

New information has been released today concerning what is expected to happen to a strong coastal storm and its impacts for Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT — The potential snowstorm that has been discussed for the upcoming Super Bowl weekend looks like it will largely miss Connecticut as the storm is expected to remain largely offshore.

This would mean that some areas, primarily in southern Connecticut, may see a rain and or snow shower on Saturday but no real accumulation. Connecticut's top meteorologists say the storm track could still change prior to the weekend but right now the forecast models show the storm largely staying offshore.

WTNH News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons says, "The weekend storm looks to move mostly out to sea to our east. I will feel much more confident tomorrow, but right now it’s looking like mostly a miss. Just a rain or snow shower and some towns here!"

On News 8's website Simmons adds, "Just a few fringe rain or snow showers as of now with the heavy precipitation offshore."

Fox 61 meteorologists say according to their website that the storm "doesn’t look like it’ll all come together in time to give us big snowfall. There is the chance we get brushed by a few snow showers as the storm makes its way past, and a much lower chance that the storm gets its act together and blankets us with heavy snow."

The National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance that southern Connecticut may see rain and snow on Saturday and Saturday night and for northern Connecticut there is zero mention of snow and or rain on Saturday. Areas in New London County would be the closest to the storm and the area which would likely see the most impact, if any.

As we wait for more information on the weekend weather forecast, it will remain very quiet today, Thursday and Friday with temps around 40 each day with plenty of sunshine. A major warmup is expected early next week with temps into the 50s. Maybe spring is arriving early this year? Wouldn't that be great.
