New Wedding Venue’s Opening Delayed In Milford

MILFORD, CT — The opening of the Tyde at Walnut Beach wedding venue has been delayed until mid-August, according to officials.

Tyde at Walnut Beach, which is being built on the former Costa Azzurra restaurant site on Broadway, was initially scheduled to launch in January, with events scheduled for May, the New Haven Register previously reported. The property was bought by the Landino family, which also operates Cascade Fine Catering in Hamden.

Rosamaria Ponte, general manager of Tyde at Walnut Beach, said in an update Thursday that delivery of the facility’s roof truss was delayed until March 13. The delay has shifted the venue’s target opening until mid-August, Ponte wrote in a letter to brides and grooms.

Ponte posted the letter on the venue’s Facebook page in response to “recent negative social media regarding construction delays at Tyde at Walnut Beach.”

A woman wrote a post on the CT Wedding Connection Facebook page, warning brides-to-be of construction delays at Tyde.

“I’m sharing my experience in hopes to warn others that are set to have their wedding reception at Tyde in 2023 and have not been made aware of recent events,” the post reads. “What I know now, I wish I knew back when we booked the venue; Tyde will assure you continuously that construction is on schedule and then suddenly cancel your event with less than six months until your special day, some couples with even less time.

“Be careful if you or anyone you know has a date that is booked that is yet to be cancelled. As of the end of January and even as recent as last week all bookings have been cancelled through the end of August. September 1, 2023 onwards is still scheduled.”

In the letter to brides and grooms, Ponte offered her sincere apology regarding the construction delays and "negative social media post."

“Our goal is to provide your loved ones with a safe state of the art venue where you may enjoy your special day,” the letter reads. “I appreciate your level of stress while planning your event and I feel strongly about maintaining a professional, honest relationship with my couples.”

Ponte said the construction team notified them of the delivery delay of the roof truss, and that all other materials are “ordered and currently being stored off site.”

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with you,” Ponte wrote in the letter. “I am wholeheartedly committed to giving you the wedding of your dreams. I will continue to update you in a timely manner regarding the construction process.”
