Notre Dame of West Haven Announces Top Scholastic Awards

Notre Dame's (l) Liam Nuttall '18 Named Valedictorian; (r) Anish Thite '18 Earns Salutatorian both of Milford

West Haven, CT – Notre Dame High School of West Haven President Robert F. Curis is pleased to announce the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2018.

Liam Nuttall ‘18, of Milford, was named the Class of 2018 valedictorian while Anish Thite ‘18, also of Milford, was the Class salutatorian.

Nuttall, who will attend Harvard University, and Thite, who will attend Georgia Institute of Technology, were both recently named Superintendent Summa Scholar Award recipients by the Archdiocese of Hartford Office of Catholic Schools.

Nuttall, a Moreau Honors Program student at Notre Dame, is a National Merit Finalist and was named the Connecticut Association of Schools Governor’s Scholar in 2017. A member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, he was elected President of the Math Honor Society for two years. He earned the prestigious Yale Book Club Award, medals on the National Spanish Exam as well as the Bausch and Lomb Math and Science Award. He received the Math Department award as a Freshman and the Biology Department award as a Sophomore. Selected as a senior peer counselor, he has been active on Team ND, Model UN and the Ski and Snowboard Club. Nuttall is an active Boy Scout, achieving the role of Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and more recently Eagle Scout. He captained the school’s Cross Country team senior year and played indoor and outdoor track and field for three and four years respectively. He has been an altar server at Precious Blood Church in Milford and a volunteer at Milford’s Senior Center throughout his high school career.

The salutatorian of the Class of 2018 is Anish Thite ‘18, also a member of the Moreau Honors Program at Notre Dame. A member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, he has also been Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. He is the recipient of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal Award for Excellence in the study of Mathematics and Science and the 2017 Trinity College Book Award. Thite earned multiple medals as well as an Honorable Mention award for the National Spanish Exam. He has participated in three Brown University Summer Programs on Biomedical Engineering, Alternative Energy Engineering, and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Thite has contributed as Team Leader/Lead Engineer to multiple achievements for the ND Robotics Club including 2016 World Championship Qualifier in Vex Robotics, 3-time Create US Open Championship Qualifier and ranking 126th in the world in the Skills Challenge 2016-17 Vex Robotics competition. Thite is a respected athlete swimming for ND at the varsity level for three years and earning recognitions including All Academic SCC Team, SCC outstanding academic achievement, West Haven Rotary Club Scholar Athlete, and Connecticut Swimming Top 16 in the Open Water championships three years in a row.
