Obituary: Kaj Gunnar Gartz

Kaj Gunnar Gartz, age 93, of Milford, beloved husband of Angela Santa Lucia Gartz for 53 years, entered into peaceful rest on Monday, February 2, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Kaj was born in Stockholm, Sweden on July 28, 1932, to the late Gunnar and Heidi Gartz Hansson. Kaj worked as a mechanical engineer for many years. He held several patents and was proud to contribute to NASA’S space program in the 1980s. He was known for his clever designs and steady hands which showed through in his favorite hobby: building intricate model ships. Above all, his greatest joy was the time he spent with all his grandchildren.

Survivors include his children: Kaj Gartz (Tricia) of IL, Erik Gartz (Katie) of VA, Melissa Wade (Tom) of Easton, Peter Gartz (Lottie) of Sweden and Kent Gartz (Anneli) of Sweden as well as 13 grandchildren and many cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 9th, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Gabriel Church, 26 Broadway, Milford. Interment will be private. There will be NO CALLING HOURS. Arrangements have been entrusted with the GREGORY DOYLE FUNERAL HOME, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. CT.
