Obituary: Peter J. Carroll, 88, of Milford
Peter, a devoted and loving family man, served as a physical education teacher and baseball coach in the Fairfield school system.

MILFORD, CT - (From Cody-White Funeral Home) Peter J. Carroll, 88, of Milford, CT, loving husband of 66 years to Florence P. (Reynolds) Carroll, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, peacefully at home.
Peter was born on Dec. 6, 1932, in Milford, CT, son of the late Joseph and Florence (Herting) Carroll.
A graduate of Milford High School, Arnold College and Southern CT State College, Peter married his high school sweetheart, Florence, not long after writing in her high school yearbook, “I loved you the first time I saw you and I think I always will,” which certainly proved true.
He served in Berlin, Germany, in the U.S. Army in 1956, and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service before beginning a teaching career in Milford.
In 1961, he began a longtime elementary and middle school physical education teaching and high school baseball coaching career in Fairfield, CT, before retiring in 1993.
The Pete Carroll Invitational Road Race at Holland Hill School was an annual event for over 25 years.
Peter also served on the Milford Planning & Zoning Board, Milford Transit District Board and was a member of the Milford Democratic Town Committee. Peter enjoyed his train collection, traveling and vacationing in Bradenton, FL and playing golf and poker with his cherished close friends.
In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by his children, Christopher (Debby) Carroll, Shawn Carroll (Donna Cartwright),Colleen Carroll Noyes, all of Milford, and Stacie (Michael) DiNello of Deep River, CT; grandchildren Kerrie Payne, Katie Garbati, Eleanor Noyes, all of Milford, Kelly Gilchrist of Cheshire, CT, Brianna David of Palermo, Maine, Peter DiNello of Wallingford, CT, Fiona Noyes of Naugatuck, CT, and William Carroll of Frederick, MD, and great-grandchildren David, Kylee, Brandon, Dylan, Finley, Kaelan, Charlie, Kyla, Eliza and Emerson.
Peter was pre-deceased by his brother, Howard Carroll, and a grandchild, Kylene Carroll.
The family wishes to thank Maria, Pete and Flo’s devoted companion and caregiver, and the staff of doctors, nurses and caregivers from the VA and Connecticut Hospice especially Marie and Michelle.
Friends and family may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. Military Honors will be served at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place that morning at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish) 70 Gulf St., Milford. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford. Masks and social distancing will be required.
