Patricia A. Hoey, 90, of Milford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at her home on March 8, 2026.
Patricia was born on May 30, 1935, in Englewood, New Jersey, to the late Michael and Ella O’Brien. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis “Frank” Patrick Hoey Sr., with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. Patricia lived in Stamford for many years before moving to Milford, Connecticut.
Patricia lived a life marked by resilience, determination, and warmth. She lived most of her life with significant hearing loss; she did not begin school until the age of seven. At a time when opportunities for children with disabilities were limited, she became the first student in her area to receive special education, helping pave the way for others who followed. A remarkably skilled lip reader, Patricia never allowed her hearing loss to limit her independence or her determination.

She attended Fairleigh Dickinson University for six years, studying accounting and medical technologies. Patricia later worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service for nearly 40 years, retiring at the age of 74. She had a lifelong love of learning and embraced new things with enthusiasm—from mastering technology such as texting and FaceTime, to making regular trips to the library, and even taking up crocheting at the age of 90 so she could make scarves for her family.
Patricia was beloved by all who knew her and had an extraordinary sense of humor that made her a joy to be around. Throughout her life she enjoyed dancing, playing tennis, watching the Patriots, playing cards and bingo, and crocheting with friends. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. Strong and inspirational, Patricia remained active in her community, where her neighbors became like family.
