Payphones in Milford: Obsolete or Necessary?

Over 91% of Americans use cell phones. But what about the other 9%? Are payphones necessary for public safety or should those without mobile phones learn to fend for themselves?

 

Milford Patch user  sent the following news tip to the Patch yesterday:

After all the fuss last year about public safety at , the pay phone is now gone. Do they think every idler at the beach has a cell phone?

The final payphone at  was also removed at the beginning of 2012. A call to Westfield Shoppingtown confirmed that they have no plans of replacing the payphone. 

The Milford, CT section of the Payphone Project listed forty-four payphones in the city, many of which have since been disconnected.
