Photos: Milford Fire Boat Sinks

Fire officials say they are investigating what caused the boat to sink.

Milford fire officials are investigating how and why the Fire Department’s boat sank Saturday evening.

Fire Capt. Gregory Carman said at 7 p.m. a caller from the boat yard, stated the the fire boat was taking on water and sinking.

“Within 20 minutes of checking on the situation, it was completely submerged. A boom was deployed to contain any fuel that may leak. The State Police dive team has raised the boat and got it onshore. The cause is unknown at this time and will be investigated,” Carman said.

Some additional information about the fire boat

The fire boat is dock at Port Milford on Rogers Avenue. It is a 1995 27 foot Winninghoff. The department does have another boat that is smaller, but is able to respond for most marine emergencies they are faced with.

The fire boat is used for anything from boat fires to search and rescue calls, including dive team operations, towing vessels in distress, and medical emergencies.
