Person Killed by Train Near Milford

Metro-North is reporting delays on the New Haven line.

MILFORD, CT -

UPDATE: A person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Milford, a Milford fire official told Patch.

A Metro-North spokeswoman told Patch the incident occurred around 2 p.m. An unauthorized person on the tracks was struck by Amtrak train 2158 going from Washington D.C. to Boston.

When asked if the person was killed by the train the spokeswoman said she could not release those details but said officials believe the incident was likely fatal.

Milford Fire Battalion Chief Anthony Fabrizi later said the pedestrian was struck and killed by a train on the Northbound side of the railroad tracks. The incident occurred in the area of Gulf Street and Buckingham Avenue.

Approximately 300 passengers were reported to be on the train at the time of the incident. No injuries to train passengers or staff were reported, Fabrizi said.

Metro North authorities and Milford police are investigating the incident, and no details have been released.

Service between New Haven and Bridgeport has resumed after being temporarily suspended. Customers should anticipate delays of 35-40 minutes. 

Earlier today, a person was struck and killed by a train in Guilford.

No delays are anticipated between Stamford and Grand Central station.

The Guilford train fatality occurred around 8:25 a.m. Friday. About 120 people were on-board the Amtrak train and no one was injured in that incident. Trains were delayed Friday morning.

This is the third incident on the train tracks within the past 10 days in Connecticut.

On April 19 in Wallingford, Brittaney Tine, 24, of Meriden died after being struck by an Amtrak train around 8 p.m. and Robert Webb, 29, of Meriden, was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of a severe hand injury after he was also struck by the train, police said at the time.

That investigation, which is ongoing, revealed that Tine and Webb were walking in a northerly direction along the Amtrak railway when they were struck by a northbound Amtrak Train, police said.
