Shopping With Fake Cash -- and Then Trying to Eat the Evidence?

A man was busted Friday for allegedly trying to use counterfeit money to buy items at Marshalls department store on the Post Road -- and then trying to eat the evidence, police said.

The man, identified as Ernest Henton, 48, of Bridgeport, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. after cops received a complaint of a man trying to use fake cash to purchase stuff at Marshalls at 1413 Boston Post Road, according to police.

"Officers located Henton as he exited the store and upon stopping him, Henton attempted to eat the counterfeit bill," police said in a press release.

The suspect is accused of trying to buy nearly $90 worth of goods, according to police.

He was held in lieu of $10,000 bond after being charged with six counts of first-degree forgery, tampering with evidence, interfering with police, and criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny, police said.
