Police: Milford Man Arrested for Murder Conspiracy of 16-Year-Old

A New Haven 16-year-old was shot and killed in New Haven during April 2014. Three have been charged.

A Milford man is among three people arrested in connection with a 2014 New Haven homicide that claimed the life of a 16-year-old.

Torrence “TJ” Gamble was shot and killed on April 3. He was a high school student at New Haven’s Riverside Academy.

New Haven detectives obtained three warrants on July 13.

John “Whiteboy” Helwig, 22, of Melba Street in Milford was caught at his home on Monday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and criminal liability for acts of another, according to Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. He was held in lieu of $850,000 bail.

A 17-year-old male form New Haven was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and carrying a pistol without a permit, he was held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Another 17-year-old New Haven male was already incarcerated on other charges and was charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

All the warrants are sealed by court order.

Hundreds attended Gamble’s funeral. Gamble attended the funeral of another teen the day before he was shot, according to the New Haven Register.
