Public Hearing For Milford Speeding, Red-Light Cameras Coming Up
The ordinance was approved by the Board of Aldermen and is intended to curb speeding and reckless driving.

MILFORD, CT — A public hearing will be held on the proposal for the city to use traffic cameras to monitor for speeding, running red lights, and reckless driving.
The hearing of the Board of Police Commissioners will be 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at City Hall.
The measure was approved by the Board of Aldermen last month.

The plan calls for placing the devices on Route 1 near the Connecticut Post Mall. The police department is also studying placing speed cameras in the following areas:
- Boston Post Road and Bridgeport Avenue
- Orange Avenue near Orange Avenue School
- Merwin Avenue near Live Oaks School
- Gulf Street (a school and recreation zone)

- Boston Post Road and Cedarhurst Lane
- Boston Post Road and North Street
- Boston Post Road and High Street
- Boston Post and I-95, by exit 24 for Bridgeport Avenue
The locations of the cameras are based on crash history, frequency of violations, and school or pedestrian zones.
A fact sheet regarding the speed cameras notes that "cars speeding in front of our schools, in our neighborhoods, near our shops, restaurants, and recreation areas is the #1 complaint by our residents and business owners."
Drivers will only be fined for speeding violations of more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit.
Data from other states and cities show that speed cameras have a compliance rate of 90% on local roads, according to the fact sheet.
