Roger, a lifelong resident of Orange, CT, was the steadfast provider and beloved patriarch of his family.

Roger A. Smith, 82 of Orange, CT, passed away on March 28, 2025. Roger was born on August 5, 1942, in Derby, CT to the late Alden and Mabel Petersen Smith. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Karolyn Whitney Smith.
Roger, a lifelong resident of Orange, CT, was the steadfast provider and beloved patriarch of his family. As the backbone of his loved ones, he worked tirelessly as a roll grinder operator for United Aluminum Corp. for over 20 years.
In his younger years, he was a skilled handyman, even building his own deck from scratch. In his free time, he enjoyed playing online Scrabble and passionately cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and the UConn Women’s Huskies with the family cat, Ariel, by his side. In addition to being a loving husband and father, Roger was admired by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Grampy.”

Roger is survived by his beloved wife Karolyn, and their two children Jeffrey Smith (wife Stephanie) and Patricia Smith. Three grandchildren: Blair Smith Husted (husband LCDR Andrew Husted, USN), Matthew Smith (wife Hannah) both teachers in the North Haven school system and Olivia Smith. Two beloved great grandchildren: Estelle Husted and Magnolia Husted. Roger is predeceased by his sister Judith Hongo and was Uncle to her two children nephew Gregory Vernon and his family, and niece Rhonda Hooper and her family. Also a beloved niece Casey Sugarman, daughter of Karolyn’s Sister Linda.
