Sen. Gayle Slossberg Honored by Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce

Hartford – State Senator Gayle S. Slossberg (D-Milford), Senate chair of the legislature’s Government Administration and Elections Committee, has been honored with a 2011 Legislative Leadership award by the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce (GNHCC). The award was presented earlier today at the chamber’s 2011 Annual Awards Luncheon held at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale.

“Each year the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce presents awards to those members who are particularly outstanding in their fields,” Anthony P. Rescigno, president of the chamber, wrote in his invitation to Senator Slossberg. “On behalf of the GNHCC and the entire business community it represents I congratulate you on receiving this award.”

“As co-chair of the state’s Commission on Enhancing Agency Outcomes our blueprint to streamline and consolidate state government was conceived, approved, and recommended, and now a plan is in place to save the state $450 million,” Senator Slossberg said. “These current economic circumstances demanded such an assertive approach – I appreciate the chamber’s acknowledgement of the progress we’ve made so far.”

“Having grown up working in my family’s small business I know very well the value of honest, effective government and have worked toward that end as a legislator,” Senator Slossberg said. “I know more often than not the interests of small businesses – and the chambers of commerce to which they belong – coincide with the state’s best interests because small business owners create jobs and generate opportunities for so many state residents.”

“I’m grateful to Tony Rescigno, the other officers of the GNHCC, and its entire membership for this award this year,” Senator Slossberg added.

Senator Slossberg is serving her fourth term in the General Assembly. In addition to her responsibility for the Government Administration and Elections Committee she is vice-chair of the Public Health Committee and Select Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and is known as an effective advocate on behalf of issues in these areas as well.
