SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The little snow that was forecast for us Wednesday morning was largely a miss, but the story today will be about the strong wind gusts.

The National Weather Service has issued both a hazardous weather outlook and a wind advisory for southern Connecticut from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

"West winds becoming northwest this afternoon 20 to 25 mph with gusts 45 to 50 mph expected," the National Weather Service said. "...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result....Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution."

There is a "slight" chance of some snow squalls tonight.

"In the wake of any snow early this morning, we’ll see at least partial clearing, and with a southwesterly flow temps head well into the 40s," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "The wind could gust over 40 mph, leading to the possibility of isolated power outages. A Wind Advisory has been posted for the entire state from 9am this morning until 10pm tonight. It will also make the 40 degree temps feel like the 30s. Additional, isolated rain/mix/snow showers develop during the day. By the evening commute, snow squalls will be a risk as a stronger cold front pushes through the state --- the reason, along with those gusty winds, why we’ve issued a First Alert Weather Day. Keep in mind any snow squall that develops can quickly drop visibility and produce a coating of snow making things slick." (Read more at WFSB 3 TV).
