Southern CT Weather: Icy Roads Possible, Bitter Cold Arrives

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for southern Connecticut on Friday. Here's what you need to know.

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for southern Connecticut Friday.

The weather service said to anticipate icy spots on untreated roads this morning and wind chills will approach zero Friday morning too.

"Icy spots are possible early this morning due to standing water from recent precipitation and temperatures well below freezing. Motorists should exercise caution if into the morning commute," the weather service said of southern Connecticut.

Concerning coastal sections of southern Connecticut, the weather service said, "North winds of 10 to 15 mph and falling temperatures will result in wind chills dropping near zero in spots early this morning. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves to minimize exposure to the wind."

And for inland sections of southern Connecticut, the weather service said, "North winds around 10 mph and falling temperatures will result in wind chills around 5 below zero during the early morning hours. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves to minimize exposure to the wind."

And as you can see below in the extended forecast, temperatures will remain freezing cold for at least the next seven days. Our next snow chance appears to be Monday night and Tuesday.
