Special Weather Statement Issued For Southern Connecticut: Here's What To Know

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for Monday due to the elevated risk of fire spread.

"The combination of drying fine fuels, southwest wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread to southern Connecticut late Monday morning into early Monday evening," the weather service said in its special weather statement.

"Giving you the First Alert to the potential for elevated fire danger for the next few days," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "The concern is that the dry, gusty, and warm conditions could cause any brush fires that start to spread quickly. Today, we’re forecasting a mostly sunny sky with highs 65-72. Tomorrow is the warmest day of the week, with highs heading well into the 70s if not approaching 80 away from the Sound. The shoreline will be a bit cooler, with temps near or just above 70.

Great weather Monday and Tuesday

Sunshine and warmer temperatures dominate on Monday and Tuesday, but wind gusts could reach 25 mph both days, which has led to an increased fire risk.

Rain arrives Wednesday and Thursday

Rain is forecast after 2 p.m. Wednesday and will continue through Wednesday night. Up to a half-inch of rain is possible.

More rain is possible Thursday afternoon, but partly sunny skies are forecast too during the day. More rain showers are expected Thursday night.

Mother's Day weekend

The weather looks good, with sunshine dominating on Sunday and temperatures in the mid 60s. If rain falls, it's likely to be Saturday night, according to the weather service.

"The second weekend of May looks seasonably cool, with highs in the low-to-mid 60s both days. Giving you the First Alert to the potential for a few isolated showers - particularly on Saturday - but it won’t be a washout by any means. In addition, the breeze that persists through most of the workweek will relax over the weekend," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists.
