Suspected drug addict busted in scrap metal break-in

A Bridgeport man has been slapped with burglary and drug charges after investigators received a report of a man possibly taking scrap metal from inside a business at 230 Old Gate Lane, police said.

The man, identified as Yanik Poulin, 37, was arrested about 9:30 a.m. Sept. 21, after he was seen speeding away from the property, which an internet search shows once housed Connecticut Limousine, according to police.

"Poulin stopped his vehicle and was taken into custody," police said. "A check of the vehicle found that Poulin had taken several items including cutting and removing copper piping from the interior of the building valued at $2,000. The damage to the building was valued at $10,000."

Poulin was allegedly in possession of heroin and related drug paraphernalia, according to police.

The suspect was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, fourth-degree larceny, first-degree criminal mischief, interfering with police, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

He was being held in lieu of $5,000 bond pending a court appearance, according to police.

Falsely reporting an incident

A Milford man has been charged with falsely reporting an incident, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor for allegedly making three false complaints about a Soundview Avenue residence -- including one claiming a man was holding a rifle there, police said.

The suspect, identified as Alessandro Malangone, 18, of 46 Depot Road, was charged Sept. 20 at around 3:15 p.m. after investigators received an anonymous complaint of a man holding rifle on the deck of 33 Soundview Ave., according to police.

"Several officers responded and set up a safety perimeter outside the home. Police found that a mother and two infant children were inside the residence and there was no male with a rifle as the anonymous caller had stated," police said.

Further investigation showed that two other anonymous calls with unfounded complaints were made to police about the residence on Sept. 19, according to police.

"Police examined telephone records and identified Malangone as the person allegedly responsible for making the phone call regarding the male with the rifle," police added in a press release. "Police discovered there was an ongoing dispute between one of the residents and Malangone who is a relative."

The suspect was being held in lieu of $1,000 bond pending a court appearance.
