MILFORD, CT — Subway Restaurants is considering moving its Milford corporate headquarters to Fairfield County.

"Subway is exploring options in Northeastern Fairfield County to create a world-class work environment for our employees, that includes a modernized headquarter location, featuring an engaging and welcoming workspace and wide range of on-site amenities," the company said in a statement. "As a member of the community for nearly 50 years, we look forward to strengthening our long-term commitment to the area."

Subway would be returning to its Fairfield County roots if the move happens. Subway started with a Bridgeport location in 1965 and expanded to 16 locations by 1974, according to the company's website. Founders Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck then began a franchising operation that culminated in it becoming one of the world's largest chains.
