Off-Duty Milford Police Officer's Death Ruled a Suicide
In a statement the Police Department says it's mourning the loss of the officer, who was beloved in the Milford community.

Update 4 p.m. The Milford Police Department received notification from the State of Connecticut Medical Examiner’s Office Monday afternoon regarding the cause of death in the investigation of the death of off-duty Milford police officer Michael Compare.
“It was determined that Michael Compare died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. On behalf of Chief Keith L. Mello and the Milford Police Department, this day is a tragic loss for the family; friends and community Michael belonged to and so proudly served. We thank you for your kind words and support regarding Michael. Michael will be greatly missed,” the Police Department said in a statement.
Update 2:30 p.m. Milford police say state police are still investigating the officer’s death.

Milford police Sgt. Jeffrey Nielsen did release the following statement Monday afternoon.
“Thank you all for your kind words and support throughout the morning. At this time we do not have any new information. The State Police are still conducting their investigation and we will work in conjunction with them, releasing information when it becomes available,” Nielsen wrote to the media.

Original post: The Milford Police Department is investigating the death of a fellow police officer, who was off-duty at the time.
Police say at 12:31 a.m. the Police Department received a complaint regarding an untimely death that occurred at 43 Naugatuck Avenue.
The resident, Michael Compare, 36, an off-duty police officer, was a three-year veteran of the Milford Police Department.
Michael Compare received medical treatment on scene and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel, police said.
“This is an isolated incident and there is no immediate danger to the community,” said Police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Nielsen.
The Milford Police Department requested the Connecticut State Police assist with this investigation. Police are continuing with the investigation and will provide further details as they become available.
