Thanksgiving Crime and Accident Stats Released for Connecticut

In the first 12 hours of the Thanksgiving holiday period Connecticut State Police were called on to make 20 DWI arrests, which occurred between midnight Nov. 23 and noon Thanksgiving. In a post on social media, State Police simply said, “Don’t drink and drive.”

Over the next 20 hours State Police added 11 more DUI arrests, bringing the total number to 31 such arrests since 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23. The good news is that no fatal accidents have been reported as of 8 a.m. Nov. 25, State Police said.

It’s no secret that during the holiday period, state and local police add extra officers to patrol the roads in an effort to keep everyone safe and to crack down specifically on drunken driving. (See below for a list of where extra patrols are planned.)

If you see a suspected drunk driver, call 911, this is a true emergency, State Police said.

Extra patrols and spot DUI checkpoints will continue through midnight Sunday. State Police have already handed out 416 speeding violations, 53, seatbelt violations, and 1,038 other hazardous moving violations.

A total of 199 accidents have been investigated including 15 with injuries.

By way of comparison during the 2015 Thanksgiving period there was one fatality on the roadways, 46 DUI arrests, 513 accidents reported including 59 with injuries, and 1,204 speeding violations.
