Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Connecticut: UPDATE

If you're wondering when to expect some severe weather in CT today, here are the answers.

(Patch Graphic )

CONNECTICUT — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Connecticut until 9 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service said in a mid-afternoon update, "There will be potential for damaging wind gusts and large hail with thunderstorms that develop through this evening."

Original post from the morning: Typically, thunderstorms move in and quickly move out of the area but unfortunately today, there is a chance for some strong to possibly severe thunderstorms from anytime after noon until 11 p.m. Wednesday, according to WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons.

Simmons has zeroed in on that 11-hour period of time for when thunderstorms are possible in Connecticut. Of course, that doesn't mean we're going to see 11 hours of storms, it just means that is the window of time for when Connecticut could see storms.

And some of those storms could be severe. "Active weather expected today! Take the umbrella! Hazy sun may burn through but please expect some thunderstorms from noon today until 11 PM tonight. Some thunderstorms could be severe! Very humid all day with highs in the 70s and 80s. Thunderstorms gradually taper tonight. Mostly dry weather tomorrow with just a widely scattered shower or thunderstorm. Much less humid Friday, Saturday and Sunday look unbelievably nice! Cooler too!," Simmons announced on his social media.

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Northern Connecticut, while a Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for most of Southern Connecticut.

Special Weather Statement for Northern CT: "Two rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms are possible today and tonight with the first round this afternoon across northern Connecticut into western and central Massachusetts. A few storms may contain strong to damaging winds and torrential downpours with localized urban/street flooding possible. There is the potential for a few rotating storms thus a very low risk of an isolated tornado.

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Fairfield County, and Northern New Haven County: Thunderstorms, mainly this afternoon and evening, may be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and isolated flash flooding."
