Toys R Us Creates Special Memory for Milford Boy's Favorite Store

When the general manager saw the child's priceless video, the store set up a moment that the 5-year-old boy will never forget.

MILFORD, CT — When Terri Fischetti shared a video of her son Max's priceless reaction to Toys R' Us going out of business on Friday she received some negative responses on social media. In the video, Max, 5, is seen crying and he can't be consoled over the fact his favorite toy store would close. (You can see the full video below).

Terri said some folks don't understand why the store was so important to her son. But she said the attention the video received also led to an amazing moment for her family this weekend at the Milford Toys R Us.

"After reading some of the less than polite comments on the video of Max crying I realized that some people don't understand that Toys R Us is more than just a "Toy Store." It's a place where kids can walk around and dream and imagine and have a special place just for them.

Kids learn through play and my favorite thing about Max is his amazing imagination and energy so I am very thankful for Legos, bikes, Superheroes etc. In the video Max asks me to buy 10 toys (because) he thought that would give Toys R Us enough money to stay open (if only things were that simple).

Yesterday the manager of Toys R Us reached out (because) she saw the video and wanted to meet him. We went into the store (Saturday) where he was greeted by an incredibly kind manager, Katherine Mais and the one and only Geoffrey. Both kids were given gift bags with Geoffrey memorabilia and Max was able to walk around and pick out some toys with Geoffrey.

Max picked out a board game and a lego set and in an effort to remind him to pay it forward we also had him pick out a lego set to donate to our favorite spot, The Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital Toy Closet. We can't thank Toys R Us enough for making such a special memory for our kids and I hope as we are all trying to use up our gift cards and possibly shop around for deals as they close, we keep in mind that all of these employees will soon be losing their jobs so it is important to be kind, patient and understanding while shopping there," Terri said.

The company confirmed reports that it will be "winding down" operations and sell or close 735 U.S. stores. It is very likely all nine Connecticut locations will close in the coming months including the Old Gate Lane location in Milford.
