Injuries have forced United States Olympic star McKayla Maroney to end her career as a competitive gymnast.

The athlete, who has family in the Milford area and whose father, Michael Maroney, graduated from Milford High School, is quick to make the distinction that she is not retiring.

“I don’t want anybody to ever think that McKayla is retiring. I don’t even want people to use that word,” she said on a GymCastic podcast, as reported by NBC Sports. “The only difference is I’m not competing anymore.”
