Milford police rescued a couple trapped in their home due to flood waters just in the nick of time Sunday morning.

As they were pulling away in the inflatable raft, water smashed against the picture window in the front of the home and blew it out like a television tube, Officer Jeffrey Nielsen said.

It all started around 11:30 a..m. when the Milford Police Department received a call regarding people trapped in their home at 108 Shorefront, according to police.

Members of the department’s Marine and Dive Units responded to this waterfront residence with two inflatable vessels to assist the stranded occupants, police said.

Officers safely removed and transported the husband, identified as 64-year-old Greg Davenport, and wife, Diane Davenport, 63, by vessel to a safe location on Kirkside Avenue along with their dog and cat.

Officers were then aided by a Milford Police Citizens’ Academy Graduate, John Carissimi, who transported the couple and their pets to the emergency shelter at Jonathan Law High School.

"The residence suffered damages from the storm including the waterfront windows being blown out by waves when the family was being removed from the home," police said.
