Wayne O. Schwartz Obituary

Milford Teacher

Wayne O. Schwartz, died peacefully in Bridgeport Hospital on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 after a brief illness. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Sept. 13, 1951 he was the son of the late Otto and Margaret (Brown) Schwartz. Mr. Schwartz was a long-time resident of Milford, Connecticut. He attended the Milford Public Schools graduating high school near the top of his class in 1969. He attended Southern Connecticut State University of New Haven where he obtained both Bachelor and Master Degrees in Special Education.

He joined the Milford Public School System as a special education teacher in 1974. During his career, Wayne taught all grade levels from fourth through high school, retiring in 2005, after 31 years of service.

Wayne was actively involved for many years in the Golden Hill United Methodist Church, 210 Elm St. Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was a member of the senior choir and served on numerous church committees. In 2010, he became a member of Trinity Episcopal Church on-the-Green in New Haven and dedicated his remaining years assisting in the life and ministry of the Church. He was active on the properties committee and a strong supporter of the choir and music programs with the church.
Aside from his family and friends, Wayne enjoyed traveling--especially to England, his adopted home. He loved music, gardening, traveling and writing.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Burke and his brothers, Robert Schwartz and John Schwartz. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Wendy Olsen, brother-in-law, Richard Birk, his nephews, Brian Burke and Kevin Burke, a cousin, Karin Ingraham and his dear friends, Noel DuBois and Jane Wakeman. Wayne touched many lives during his time on this earth and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Wayne will be remembered on All Soul’s Day at this year’s Evensong Service and interred in the columbarium at Trinity Episcopal Church on the Green in New Haven.
