Obituaries

William J. Auger, III, of Milford, passed away on December 19, 2024

William was a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine for over twenty years, avid sailor with his wide Patricia, beloved father & grandfather.

William J. Auger, III of Milford, CT passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, exactly three years and one day after his beloved wife of over 50 years, Patricia Ann Auger. Known fondly as "Bill", he was born on June 28, 1944 in Bridgeport CT, and was the son of the late William and Mary Auger.


Bill attended Notre Dame High School and graduated from SUNY Maritime College with a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Engine License for Steam/Motor/Gas Turbine (Horsepower Unlimited). He was a commissioned officer in the Navy Reserve and served as Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine for over twenty years. Bill was also involved in initial construction of Bridgeport Resources Recovery Facility as well as Facility Management at Fairfield University.

Bill was a borne tinkerer and loved to take things apart and put them back together to see how they worked. He could fix anything. Bill and Patti traveled extensively around the world together and were very skilled sailors. Most notable among their awards was a celestial navigation race to Bermuda. Long time members of Housatonic Boat Club and Laurel Beach, Patti and Bill were also well known amongst their many friends for their dancing, Halloween costumes, and beloved cat Leo.

Bill is survived by his daughter Marybeth Howlett, grandson Ben Howlett of Falls Church, VA. As well as his siblings; Terry Murphy of Southport, CT and Jake Auger of Manchester, CT.
Services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org)
